Destination Dumpster: Throwing Out Trash and Finding Treasures, Part 1

We just returned from a week long visit to Nebraska and were able to take a couple days while we were there to start clearing out all the junk in the ole Ragan House. What a fun and stinky adventure thus far!

The first day of work, Max, Cindy, and myself worked for about 2 hours to completely fill the dump trailer before calling it a day.

Here are some before photos for the day.

… and after our day’s work!

The rooms look and feel so much bigger already! As we are going through things, we have started a “Cool Finds” pile. Here are some of the first treasures we have found in the house.

The previous owners were using the black thing as a side table. We think it may be a huge airport light or something!

A Quick View From Our Homesite on The Land

May 21, 2023 - We visited The Land! It’s hard to tell in a panorama photo, but this in an image from the bottom of the hill where the house will eventually sit, right at the entrance of the driveway.

Standing on the anticipated home site at the top of our hill. This will be the front porch view - looking 90 degrees east.

Our anticipated view looking west off the back patio.

Max’s dad offered to dump the trailer and leave it at the house again for us. Max’s mom watched the girls while my mom and I worked this time. It was a cool rainy day so it was quite dark in the house. We opted to use bandanas to keep the nasty mold and dust out of our face while we hauled out the junk. If you know me, you know I do NOT enjoy covering my face. I’ve had to pray and work through some serious PTSD in this case though, because it is pretty gnarly air in the house right now!

May 25, 2023 - Mom and I, the house clearing bandits!

We worked for another two hours or so and had the trailer completely full again. We got the pantry all cleared and a good majority of the future master bedroom done.

If you followed any of the Raccoon Saga shared by my mother-in-law, you will know that we somewhat expected to find Mr. Rocky in the house at some point. Well… we found his remains in the master bedroom where the buggers’ main hole into the house had been blocked off last winter. I am sure hoping that isn’t how the little guy went. RIP Rocky!

RIP Rocky Raccoon!

We are expecting to put a new roof on the house this July and are trying to decide which color shingles to go with. Maybe I should make a post showing our ideas for the exterior!

Tata for now, friends!
